It had the eighteenth greatest proportion of Nicaraguan inhabitants in the United States, at 2.25 percent of the population, and the ninety-third highest percentage of Colombian residents in the United States, at 1.77 percent (tied with South Miami and Princeton, FL.)

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum are located on the campus of Florida International University (FIU), and it hosts rotating exhibits, tours, and receptions.
