Kendall, Florida

Kendall is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The region has a population of 75,371 people according to the 2010 census. The Miami Metrorail serves Kendall's northeastern end at the Dadeland North and Dadeland South stations. Both stations link Dadeland to surrounding commercial hubs such as the City of Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, and Miami International Airport by metro. The Dadeland South station is a key transport hub in the area, linking the southernmost communities of Homestead and Florida City to Metrorail through the South Miami-Dade Busway's limited-stop bus rapid transit system.

Kendall's main attraction for many visitors is Dadeland Mall. It's also a popular eating destination, with over 180 retailers spread across 1.4 million square feet, including restaurants like Texas de Brazil, Earls Kitchen + Bar, and CVI.CHE 105. Ghee Indian Kitchen in the neighboring Downtown Dadeland work/live/play complex is a must-visit for a unique dining experience. You'll be treated to elegant Indian cuisine prepared with ingredients from Chef Niven Patel's family farm.

The Florida Land and Mortgage Company bought a large portion of what is now Kendall from the state of Florida in 1883. It was named after Henry John Broughton Kendall, a Florida Properties and Mortgage director who relocated to the region in the early 1900s to handle the company's land. Development was gradual long into the twentieth century because the area was not suitable for settlement. In 1914, the town got its first post office, and in 1929, it got its first school. Some inhabitants moved away once the land boom ended in 1926. In the Kendall region, two Seminole campsites existed, and Seminoles lived there until the 1940s.

Hurricane Andrew caused chaos in Kendall and the neighboring South Dade region in August 1992. Many of the local houses and businesses were damaged. The region was gradually restored throughout the years that followed.

Killian Greens Golf Club and Briar Bay Golf Course are both located in Kendall. Take the family to one of Kendall's numerous parks, such as Kendall Indian Hammocks Park, which has a disc golf course, a skate park, and paths that weave through a tropical hardwood hammock. Zoo Miami, which spans 750 acres and houses more than 500 animal species from all over the world, including the Florida Everglades, the Amazon, Africa, Australia, and Asia, is a must-see.
